Cambridge currently offers more than 30 undergraduate courses (Triposes), covering over 60 academic disciplines. [3] According to 2024 application statistics, the five most popular courses are Engineering, Natural Sciences, Computer Science, Mathematics, and Medicine, followed by Law, Economics, Humanities, and Politics. Overall admission rates at Cambridge are extremely low, with the most competitive courses generally below 15%. Prospective students are advised to review official course application and admission statistics to plan their preparation and increase their chances of acceptance. [4]

University of Cambridge Entry Requirements: A-Level/AS, IB, ACT/AP
Admission typically requires A-Level grades of AAA or AAA. Highly competitive courses in STEM, Economics, and Medicine may require AA*A. IB scores generally range from 40 to 42 points [7], adjusted according to course-specific requirements and annual competition.

University of Cambridge Entry Requirements: DSE
Cambridge also recognises Hong Kong DSE results. Generally, DSE applicants require 555 + 5*55, with high achievement in relevant subjects. M1/M2 units have specific requirements depending on the course [8]. Detailed subject requirements are as follows:
Core Subjects
- 555, with the 5* in subjects related to the intended course
- “Citizenship and Social Development” must be passed [8]
Elective Subjects
- Humanities (except Economics), Psychological & Behavioural Sciences, Veterinary Medicine: 5*55
- Science and Economics courses: 555 [8]
Mathematics Extension Units (M1/M2)
- Courses requiring A-Level Mathematics or Further Mathematics must include M2 (Algebra & Calculus)
- Courses requiring A-Level Mathematics are recommended to include M1 or M2 as core subjects
- Courses not requiring A-Level Mathematics may consider relevant extension units [8]
Students should note that applied subjects in Category A (Health Management & Social Care, Tourism & Hospitality) and all Applied Learning subjects in Category B are generally not recognised for most Cambridge courses. Category C “Other Languages” elective subjects are typically recognised, but specific assessment depends on the individual course. [8]

University of Cambridge English Language Requirements
Since all Cambridge courses are taught in English, international students must meet specific language proficiency standards. The English language entry requirements are as follows:

Meeting these English requirements not only satisfies the admission criteria but can also be used for visa applications, without the need for a separate UKVI-approved language test (SELT). [9]
University of Cambridge Admission Tests
Hong Kong students applying to Cambridge must, in addition to DSE results and English proficiency, take relevant admission tests. Applicants should check the specific requirements for each course and register before the deadlines.
Not all courses require pre-admission tests. Some courses, such as Architecture, Classics, Design, Geography, and History, may conduct additional tests after the candidate is shortlisted for an interview.
For 2026 admissions, Cambridge has published course-specific tests: Computer Science and Economics require the TMUA mathematics test; Engineering, Natural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine require the ESAT Engineering & Science test; Law requires the LNAT; Medicine requires the UCAT Clinical Aptitude Test. Other courses’ tests are announced on the Cambridge website. [10]
University of Cambridge Tuition Fees
Tuition fees at Cambridge vary depending on student status and course type. For 2025, UK and Ireland students pay domestic fees of £9,535. Eligible students also include:
- Irish citizens residing in the UK or Ireland
- European Economic Area or Swiss citizens with settled or pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS)
- Certain EEA/Swiss nationals with direct family connections and legal residence in Gibraltar under the UK Withdrawal Agreement [11]
