Target Applicants for HKMU Non-JUPAS

HKMU’s Non-JUPAS scheme (covering both local and non-local direct applications) is primarily designed for applicants applying for bachelor's degree programmes with qualifications other than the HKDSE results via JUPAS. This includes holders of Associate Degrees, Higher Diplomas, international qualifications, or mature applicants. The University requires applicants to meet the minimum entrance requirements, including general academic standards and English language proficiency. 

HKMU Non-JUPAS Programmes

HKMU offers a wide range of programmes across the fields of Arts, Business, Education, Nursing, and Science. Students may choose their preferred discipline based on their interests and professional goals: 

  • School of Arts and Social Sciences: Animation and Visual Effects, Chinese Language and Literature, Creative Advertising and Media Design, English and Cultural Studies, New Music and Interactive Entertainment, Psychology, Social Sciences, etc. 
  • Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration: Applied Psychology and Business Management (Double Degree), Aviation Services Management, Business Administration, Finance and Financial Technology, Global Business, Global Marketing and Supply Chain Management, Human Resource Management, International Hospitality and Attractions Management, etc. 
  • School of Education and Languages: Language Studies (Applied Chinese Language), Education (Chinese Language Teaching) & Language Studies (Applied Chinese Language), English Language Studies, Early Childhood Education, etc. 
  • School of Nursing and Health Sciences: Diagnostic Radiography, Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing (General/Mental Health), Physiotherapy. 
  • School of Science and Technology: Biomedical Sciences and Biotechnology, Construction and Quality Management, Building Services Engineering and Sustainable Development, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Cyber and Computer Security, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, Food Testing Science, etc. [1] 

HKMU Non-JUPAS GPA Requirements

Although HKMU does not explicitly state a minimum GPA threshold for all applicants, based on Non-JUPAS admission standards across Hong Kong universities, it is generally expected that applicants possess a GPA of 3.0 or above. For highly competitive business programmes or professional degrees with stricter requirements, it is advisable for students to achieve a GPA of 3.3 to 3.5 or higher to secure a better chance of admission.

HKMU Non-JUPAS Admission Criteria

HKMU sets different admission standards depending on the education system. Students may refer to the following data to plan their future applications. 

General Entrance Requirements

The following are the minimum entry thresholds for various qualifications. Students must also refer to the specific subject requirements of individual HKMU programmes to improve their admission prospects:

HKDSE Level 3 or above in Chinese and English Language, Level 2 or above in Mathematics (Compulsory Part), Level 2 or above in two Elective subjects, and "Attained" in Citizenship and Social Development. 
HKALE Grade E or above in AS-Level Chinese Language & Culture and Use of English; AND Grade E or above in 2 A-Level subjects; OR Grade E or above in 1 A-Level + 2 AS-Level subjects; OR Grade E or above in 4 AS-Level subjects. [2] 

English Language Requirements

Applicants applying via Non-JUPAS must also satisfy one of the following English language requirements:

Specific Subject & Interview Requirements

In addition to the general entrance requirements mentioned above, admission criteria for certain HKMU programmes may vary. For instance, for the Bachelor of English Language Studies with Honours, Bachelor of Language Studies (English) with Honours are counted towards the GCE A-Level subject requirements. Nursing-related degrees also have distinct language requirements. [2] 

Regarding interviews, HKMU generally requires Non-JUPAS applicants to attend an admission interview. Therefore, in addition to meeting the academic threshold, students must demonstrate good performance during the interview. [3] 

Language Requirements for Bachelor of Nursing (Honours)

Beyond general entrance requirements, applicants for the Bachelor of Nursing (Honours) programmes must meet specific Chinese and English language requirements:

HKMU Non-JUPAS Application Process & Key Dates

Local applicants holding qualifications other than HKDSE, as well as all non-local applicants, should apply via the HKMU Online Application System. An application fee of HK$300 (for local applicants) or HK$515 (for non-local applicants) applies. [5]

HKMU Non-JUPAS Eligibility & Process for Mainland Gaokao Students

Mainland students holding current year Gaokao results may apply via the Non-JUPAS route for programmes in the School of Arts and Social Sciences, Lee Shau Kee School of Business and Administration, School of Education and Languages, and the School of Science and Technology. 

HKMU accepts applications from 19 December 2025. Students must submit their applications via the online system before 31 May 2026 and meet the following admission requirements: 

  • Achieve the Tier 1 line (一本線) or equivalent in the Gaokao; 
  • Achieve a minimum score of 100 in the Gaokao English subject;
  • Attend an admission interview (if applicable). [4]
