Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) was founded in 1880 by theologian and politician Abraham Kuyper. The original campus was located in the city centre of Amsterdam and primarily comprised the faculties of Theology, Law, and Humanities. As the university expanded, a Faculty of Medicine was established in Amsterdam-Zuid in 1907, followed by the Faculty of Science in 1930. Due to growing student numbers, the university relocated in 1973 to its current campus on Boelelaan in southern Amsterdam, adjacent to the Zuidas business district.[1]
